Celebrating 30 Years of Service

Special Operation held there annual cook out at the fire boat today, even the rain could not put a damper on this special occasion. The real reason for the celebration was the mile stone of 30 Years of service by Chief W. Benson.  Lt. T. Jones a class mate of Chief Benson's made a surprise visit.  Congratulations to both gentlemen.

 
   
   
 
Rope Rescue

Rescue Squad 1 arrived at the Air and Space Museum on Sunday afternoon, August 24th. For the stalled elevator, Rescue 1 was faced difficult challenge when they   found the elevator, with five inside, caught in a blind shaft some distance from the nearest floor. Rescue 1 officer completed his   size-up he requested an additional Rescue Squad which brought RESCUE 3 and the Special Operations Chief. Rescue 1 starting setting up a rope system with the assistants of Rescue 3 all passengers were safely removed.

Around 10 Am on Wednesday Engine 15 was dispatched third due for a house fire with people trapped @ 3715 O Street S.E. Units arrived to find Smoke Showing from side A and the units in the rear reported fire showing from Side C of a single story house. The fire was under control in 20 minutes searches were negative and command 3 held 2+2.

Apartment Fire

The Engine and Squad on the Box that was first was reported as a gas leak. Engine 30 and Truck 17 along with BFC2 were alerted for a gas leak at 130 42nd Street N.E. Engine 30 arrived at  to find smoke in the building and requested the box to be filled. As the engine proceed to the apartment they found a microwave on fire with no extension command held 1+1

 
 
Arson Fire

The box alarm was sounded around 8:20 pm for a apartment fire @ 3900 D Street S.E. Engine 30 arrived with smoke showing from the top floor of a four story apartment with people trapped. Crews advanced there lines to the fire apartment and located and removed one victim and he was transported to the hospital. The fire was under control within 30 minutes and the incident was scaled back to 2+2

 
 
House Fire

Just before 11:00 Pm units with the 2nd Battalion Chief were alerted for a house next to 1619 Olive St. N.E. Engine 27 arrived to find fire showing from the first floor. Units had several lines operating, Rescue completed the primary and secondary which were negative. Units had the fire under control in 20 minutes and command held 2+2

Congratulations to Captain Sean Green on his promtoion to Battalion Chief. Chief Green is going to Battalion 6 # 4

Congratulations to Lieutenant Charles A Mack from Engine co 15 # 3 Platoon  on his recent promotion to Captain. Captain Mack will be taking the place of Captain Sean Green @ Engine 15 # 4 Congratulations to Jeff Dickey of Squad 3 # 3 on his promtoion to Sergeant. Jeff is going to Truck 10 # 2

While Engine 15 was on a medical the Squad was dispatched for a house fire @ 2817 Pomeroy Rd S.E. (engine's15 first due) The squad pulled up with fire showing from the first floor side A of a 2 story house. Searches were negative and the fire was under control in 15 minutes command 3 Held 2 + 2

The members of Anacostia fire department would like to wish Gerald Bunn a speedy recovery. Gerald became ill after completing his 90-day test at the training school on Friday. Gerald was admitted to Washington Hospital Center; were he  recently underwent surgery and is recovering at Washington Hospital Center. He is in room 2NW23B and will probably be there til Monday.

Units with the 3rd Battalion Chief were alerted for a house @ 2909 5th St S.E. Engine25 arrived to find smoke showing from a 2 story house. Engine 15 ran there 400 to back-up 25 Engine. The squad removed the bars from the front door and completed a search which was negative. Command held 1+1 for a bed room.

 
 
MVC WITH ONE INTO A HOUSE

The cave-in task force alarm assignment was sent for a car that crashed into a house at WHEELER RD. & ALABAMA AVE SE. Units arrived and reported two victims pinned by the auto, which were sitting on the front porch and one passenger pinned in the auto. Just clearing a local Alarm at Greater Southeast, the squad was dispatched on a Box Alarm @ 426 21st Street N.E. Engine 8 arrived with smoke showing from 2 story middle of the row. The squad arrived and went to work on the primary and the (SWD) driver went to side C to remove the bars from the basement windows. The primary and secondary were negative the fire was located in the basement and was extinguished in 20 minutes. A Box alarm was sounded this morning after 4am for the house fire @ 44th Street & Grant st N.E. Engine 27 arrived to find fire throughout a 3 story wood frame house,with extension to the D exposure. 27 tried to make an interior attack on the original fire building, but with the structure being fully involved the units went heavy duty. Units made an interior attack in the exposure building and the fire was under control within 30 minutes.

 
   
   
 
APARTMENT FIRE

Units from the Third Battalion were called to the 1600 block of Savannah Street SE for a reported apartment building on fire. Engine 32 arrived on the scene they reported s working fire on the top floor of a three-story apartment building. The Engine made quick work of the fire and the fire was under control within 15 minutes.
